Two customers of the same provider can be on entirely different regimes depending on when they signed. Your app's roaming screen is the only authority for your own plan.

Included roaming is included up to a published limit. Beyond that ceiling, per-gigabyte charging starts — and that, rather than the visible daily fee, is where unexpected bills come from.
Note the figure before you travel and check your consumption once mid-trip rather than after you get home.
§3The alternative on longer trips
Keep your UK line for calls and texts, and add a cheap local or regional data profile at the destination with data routed through it. On any stay past a few days this comfortably beats daily charging, and it reverses in seconds when you return.
It needs a handset that supports two profiles, which most recent flagships do.
§4Five minutes before you fly
Confirm the spend cap is enabled.
Read the roaming screen and note the ceiling as a figure.
Turn off automatic backups and app updates over mobile data.
Buy a travel data profile if the trip runs past a few days.
On landing, check which network you have latched onto and that data routes as intended.
Common pitfallFerries, cruise ships and some in-flight services bill through satellite arrangements that sit outside ordinary roaming — and outside your spend cap. This is the most common source of genuinely large bills, and switching mobile data off before boarding prevents all of it.
