Independent status. fernwick is an independent guidance and information service. We are not a mobile network. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, appointed by or connected to Three, EE, O2, Vodafone, Sky Mobile, Tesco Mobile or any other provider, and we hold no commercial arrangement with any of them. We do not sell, supply, arrange or broker SIM cards, contracts, handsets or services of any kind, and we take no commission. Everything published here is general information and must not be relied upon in place of the provider's own current terms.
Our position in one line

Issue and transfer are free on every UK network through official channels — the demand for payment is itself the giveaway.

§1What it is

An eSIM is the same subscription written into your handset's built-in chip rather than supplied on a plastic card. The service is identical; issue is faster, and holding two lines on one handset becomes possible.

Requested inside your provider's own app or website, it activates within minutes.

If any of this is unclear

Telephone the advisory and we will talk it through. There is nothing to buy at any point.

§2Support by provider

ProviderPosition
EEOne of the smoothest in-app processes available
Three and O2Issued within minutes by app, website or shop
Sky MobileArrived later than the mast owners and still varies by handset — confirm your exact model
Wholesale brandsWidely supported on recent plans; check brand by brand

§3Charges, and their absence

Issue and transfer are free through official channels on every UK network — including a reissue after a lost handset, because the number belongs to your account rather than to the chip.

Common pitfallCallers invent “transfer services”, “activation fees” and “migration charges”. None exist anywhere in UK mobile. Refuse the charge, end the call, and forward any message to 7726 free of charge.

Keeping your number when you switch uses the ordinary free text code — digital and plastic SIMs are treated identically.

§4The travel pairing

Buy a local or regional data profile before you fly.
On landing, enable it for data only.
Keep the UK line active for calls and texts.
Check that data is actually routing through the travel profile.
Delete or archive it when you get home — the whole thing reverses in seconds.
